Viz Lab Scanner Introduction ---------------------------- To use the scanner, log on to the SGI named Natasha located in the 216 laboratory. The software is called: iopener Here is a simple walkthrough of using iopener: 1. To execute the scanner type iopener at the UNIX prompt. A window will appear after a short amount of time labelled "iopener Scan Version 1.00". 2. At this time, place the material(s) you would like to have scanned in the scanner which is much like a photocopier in appearance. 3. Press the button called "Preview" near the bottom. This will give you a full scan of the material(s) in the scanner. 4. Use the left mouse button in the preview window to drag open a cut window by holding the mouse down and moving the mouse. This will create a rectangular region which will be used to make the final scan. You may resize or move this box by carefully pulling the edges or corners. 5. At this point you may want to change a few settings such as the scan resolution (higher the resolution, the larger the file size) or the format of the output image. These options are in the window. 6. Press the "Scan" button when you are ready to scan the material(s). Another window will appear and ask you for a filename. Modify the default filename if so desired and then press the "Scan" button on this window. The scanner will begin it's final scan. 7. The scanned image is now saved automatically to disk. You may exit now or scan some more material(s) (go to step 2 if so).
